President’s Letter

I do hope each of you had a great Thanksgiving. With all of the holidays approaching there are several changes in our December schedule. The new dates and the changes regard the date for the EMCO voter service committee meeting (not a change, but an addition), the holiday party and the EMCO book club.

Our Speaker for November was Maribeth Healey from Senator Jeff Merkley’s office. Her presentation was most interesting. With all the health care debates I can understand why she gave us a broad overview and very few absolutes.

For those of you on the voters’ service committee, we will be meeting at Elise Swan’s at 1219 NE 6th St. in Gresham on Monday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Take the elevator to the fourth floor and the room where the meeting will be held is directly across from the elevator.

                                                                                                cont’d on p.          2

Please note this change: we will have our potluck holiday party at Zion United Church of Christ (2025 NE 23rd, Gresham) on Saturday, December l9th from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Remember, EMCO is not only about working and studying policies and issues but we are a social organization, too. Come and bring a friend (or two, or three, or more)!

There will no board meeting in December unless absolutely necessary, nor will there be a Public Information Meeting or unit meetings. The speakers on January 12th will be Mike Abbate and Justin Coulter from the city of Gresham.

The Brunch plans are pretty well set. Now all we have to do is work to promote this event. This is our only fundraiser of the year and EMCO relies on these funds to help our communities in so many ways: Voters’ Guide,  speakers on issues, participation in government, etc. Let’s invite two or three friends (more if possible) and make this a great success! It will be held at The Refectory restaurant at 1618 NE 122nd in Portland from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The cost is $30.00 per person. The speaker is Jane Kirkpatrick who is one of Oregon’s better known authors. She was selected as one of “Oregon’s 150” in celebration of Oregon’s 150th birthday.

In the January bulletin each of you will receive an application for joining the League of Women Voters of East Multnomah County. I hope you will take it with you to meetings and gatherings and encourage others to join.

An up-to-date events calendar is included with this bulletin.

Happy Holidays to each of you!

Marlene
